What is ICHOU?
Institute of Caribbean Home Office Underwriters (ICHOU) is a regional body formed to represent the interests of Caribbean Home Office Underwriters.
When was ICHOU founded?
The Institute of Caribbean Home Office Underwriters (ICHOU) was founded in 1995 in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
Why ICHOU?
From the advent of the Home Office Underwriting discipline in the Caribbean, Underwriters have played a major role in the success and profitability of their companies. However, the Caribbean Underwriter has not really received the kudos or recognition for being an important player in the story of the regional life insurance industry. What are the reasons for this? Sadly, much of the blame must fall on the shoulders of the Underwriter. In many cases we have allowed the reinsurer to take credit for our work. Also many of us who have moved to higher positions in our companies have never looked back at our former co-workers or our former profession. ICHOU like our sister organizations around the world was formed in an effort to elevate the status of the Caribbean Underwriter.
ICHOU:
- promotes professional and educational opportunities for the home office underwriters
- provides for the dissemination of information pertinent to the life insurance profession
- affords opportunities for dialogue, consultation and co-operation among members.
How does ICHOU fulfill its mandate?
ICHOU sees conferences as being excellent vehicles to fulfill its mandate. Since the establishment of the institute, ICHOU has hosted three such conferences.
The upcoming Biennial ICHOU Conference will be held from May 5 – 8, 2006 at the Hilton Tobago Golf and Spa Resort, Trinidad and Tobago.
