| ABOUT GIAB |
The GIAB was established on November 17th, 1977, with a general mission to foster and promote the interests of its members. In recent times, key industry considerations include the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME), and the introduction of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ). The Barbados industry will also be impacted by reinsurers ceasing to offer unlimited liability coverage after 2005. In preparation for the challenges of the future, the GIAB plans to:
- Explore the possibility of merging life and non-life associations under one body
- Work with the Insurance Institute of Barbados Inc (IIB) in pursuing alliances with Universities.
- Seek to have all general insurers become members of the Association.
- Suggest the minimum qualification/experience level for persons sitting on Boards/Committees
- Forge a closer relationship with local bodies and the Insurance Association of the Caribbean Inc (IAC).
